Rock bags are heavy-duty poly bags engineered specifically for packaging gravel, decorative stone, sand, soil, mulch, and other heavy aggregate materials. Built from thick-gauge LDPE (typically 3-4 mil), these bags withstand the weight, sharp edges, and abrasion that destroy standard poly bags.
How Rock Bags Work
Rock bags use heavier gauge film (3-4 mil vs the standard 1-2 mil) to resist puncture from sharp stone edges. They are typically larger sizes (starting at 12″ x 18″) to accommodate the weight and volume of aggregate products. The bags are filled by gravity or conveyor, sealed with an impulse sealer or clip, and palletized for retail or wholesale distribution.
When to Use Rock Bags
Rock Bags are the right choice when:
- Packaging decorative rock, river stone, pebbles, or gravel for retail sale
- Bagging sand, soil, mulch, or other landscaping materials
- Any product that weighs 5-50 lbs per bag with sharp or abrasive contents
- Garden centers, hardware stores, and landscape supply distributors
When NOT to Use Rock Bags
There are better options when:
- Lightweight products that don’t need puncture resistance (use standard lay flat bags)
- Products over 50 lbs per bag (consider woven polypropylene bags instead)
