Poly tubing is one of the most versatile packaging materials available — and one of the least understood. If you pack products of varying lengths, poly tubing can replace dozens of bag SKUs with a single roll.
How Poly Tubing Works
Poly tubing is a continuous tube of polyethylene film supplied on a roll. Unlike pre-made bags, tubing has no seals — it is open on both ends. You cut it to whatever length you need and seal the ends with a heat sealer or impulse sealer.
This means one roll of 12-inch-wide poly tubing can make bags of any length — 6 inches, 24 inches, or 6 feet. You create the exact bag size you need, on demand, with zero inventory of pre-cut bags.
Common Applications
- Long or irregular items — Lumber, pipes, rolled materials, fishing rods, anything that does not fit standard bag sizes.
- Variable-length products — When the same product comes in multiple lengths and stocking separate bag sizes is impractical.
- High-volume packing — Automated packaging lines that cut and seal bags inline at high speed.
- Bundling — Wrapping multiple items together as a single unit.
Available Options
Poly tubing is available in widths from 2 inches to 60+ inches and gauges from 1 mil to 6 mil. Standard material is LDPE, with LLDPE and FDA-grade options available. Custom printing is possible on tubing rolls for branded packaging.
The width of the tubing determines the flat width of your finished bag. To calculate the tubing width you need: add the product width plus twice the product depth, then add 1-2 inches for clearance.
